Photographing the White South in the Turbulence of the 1960s

Lens Doy Gorton, a son of the Mississippi Delta who joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, returned to Mississippi to embark on a project photographing his fellow white Southerners. Doy Gorton grew up deep in “the most Southern place on earth”: the Mississippi Delta.
